Hi Ayreonauts!
Today’s post answers an email question sent in by Josh:
…I am really excited for this record! Can I ask if Arjen has employed any instruments for this record that he hasn’t used before? For example, we heard a didgeridoo on The Human Equation which was a great touch.
Thanks for the question, Josh! The short answer to your question is yes. As usual, Arjen is going to have guest musicians on the next Ayreon. Some of them have already started recording, and one of them just happens to be an instrument that Arjen’s never used before.
Here is a little snippet.

a great balalaika
Banjo?
Thank you, Arjen.
It’s a harpsichord, I’d wager.
Guessing it’s a Fretless Guitar Zither.
A lute (of in goed Nederlands, een luit).
heb je wel eens aan een draailier gedacht? Ook een heel apart geluid.
groeten uit Oudenbosch
It’s a Mandolin!
dulcimer
Geierleier… sounds a lot like it
12 string acoustic guitar (also known in Brazil as “viola caipira”)!
I think its an irish bouzouki as well! :s
Of course there are 2 modern types of guitarra – Lisboa and Corimba, not familiar enough to say which (if it is that)
sounds like a Wheel fiddle/Hurdy gurdy or in duch its calt a draailier
It’s a baglama, isn’t it?
Definitely a Theremin.
LUTE!
Its a balalaika
I think it is a Portuguese guitar…
Thanks for your guesses, everyone! The guessing game is now officially closed…I’ll be posting the answer shortly!
