Arjen is proud to announce that he was able to enlist the talents of legendary screen actor Rutger Hauer as the narrator on his forthcoming solo album. “This is a dream come true,” says Arjen. “Rutger is not only one of my favorite actors, he also starred in my all-time favorite sci-fi movie, Blade Runner.”

Rutger also enjoyed the collaboration with Arjen, saying “it was marvelous work, very creative.” Arjen and Rutger talk about their collaboration in a short video clip posted here. The solo album (title TBA) is scheduled for release by InsideOut on 23 April (Europe) and 8 May (USA). More info to follow soon!

I really liked the intro! I got a feeling of The Dream Sequencer-machine and a vibe of the ”Ayreon-sound” which in fact is the sound of you Arjen. Your sound is great and I’m really looking forward to this album. It will be great fun to hear you sing the songs as well. Thumbs up!

    • Arjen says:

Thanks Marcus, glad you like it! Yes, I guess the solo album will have my typical sound again..even though I tried to do something different! Well…there will be some pretty happy songs that might shock you :-)

    • Arjen says:

Glad you like the intro, Marcus! Yes, I guess I’ve developed my own sound through the years. But I still think there are some (hopefully positive) surprises on the album :-)

  2. • Arjen says:

Thanks for your kind words, León, hope you’ll enjoy the solo album! Yeah, Blade Runner rules…especially that scene with Rutger. Saludos!

  3. Daniel Haiduc says:

Woow, what a voice! It gave me the creeps :) but in a good way. Just can’t wait for the new album and as for the last almost 20 years we were never let down by an album by Arjen (and in my almost 10 years since I heard the first Ayreon album), I’m sure we won’t be this time as well. Really looking forward to hearing you on full length album as I always enjoyed the parts sang by you.

Happy songs are not a bad thing :P I don’t think I’d be socked anymore by something you did (unless you’d have started a boy-band, doing an album with Timbaland or be the “new” Dieter Bohlen of Holland :-)

    • Arjen says:

Haha, that’s exactly what Rutger hoped…creep you in a good way! Hope the album will live up to your expectations, Daniel.

  4. L says:

Alright! I can’t wait for the release date to arrive! I would love to get a signed copy of it with your best wishes to everyone! :D You have a great talent for capturing the best of the imaginative world! Now Mr.L, tell me what you can remember.

  5. NahuelCC says:

I have some damaged DNA in my head… can you pass me the phone of your shrink? :P

your music is amazing… keep the good work!!!!

  6. Guillaume Paul says:

  7. Lon Strickland says:

I can’t wait for this album!!!

  8. Roy Pouwels says:

When can we preorder your new album?

    I like the intro

    • Lori (Arjen's PM) says:

Don’t quote me on this, but probably sometime in late March or early April (2012). And yeah, the intro is pretty cool, isn’t it! :-)

  9. Grant Larson says:

This sounds like it’s going to be amazing, which I guess is pretty on par for you. I think it’s ridiculously awesome that you got Rutger Hauer on there. I loved him in Blade Runner. It’s even better than having Christopher Lee narrate on Rhapsody of Fire albums! I actually just hopped on here to see if you were working on anything new… and found this. I eagerly await your next album. Keep up the good work, sir. You continue to inspire me, to set a level of music writing to which I can aspire. Thank you.

    • Arjen says:

You’re very welcome, Grant! Yes, I’m extremely proud of Rutger, he should gave won an award for his part in Blade Runner!

  10. Bane says:

whaaa that intro is way too short!! keep it up, always looking for more Arjen!
and uh… since no band… why no tour? XD or will there be a release party?

    • Arjen says:

Thanks for your comment, Bane! But…I hate playing live for too many reasons to mention, sorry… Hope you’ll enjoy the album!

      • Bane says:

        It’s made by you so i can’t even imagine why i won’t enjoy everything of it… *wonders*… still no reason…*imagines*… nope… no reason at all ;) :)

  11. nox-Hand says:

Oh yes. Sitting in an unbearable heat, but still managing to get goosebumps. Looking forward to the preorder, and hoping to get another signed copy of music made by my inspiration! Lovely stuff, Arjen!

    • Arjen says:

Goosebumps are always good…excellent, John! And of course I’ll sign again, no problem :-)

      • nox-Hand says:

Not half bad to have “direct” contact with your inspiration ;) Was walking down the street the other day, listening to The Human Equation and some guy just went “OI! OI YOU!” “..huh?” “I LOVE THAT SONG!” and gave me a smile of understanding, nodded and walked off. You are everywhere ;)

        • Arjen says:

Haha, that’s so cool, John! Thanks, I love little stories like this :-) All I get here on the streets is just dirty looks from people who are whispering to each other: ‘that tall guy really needs a proper haircut’ :-)

          • nox-Hand says:

Ah yes, I cut off my long hair (to the tune of http://i.imgur.com/ZhRbM.jpg) when I was living in Japan, as it was too hot with 38 degrees and 90% humidity for the hat.. Perhaps some day ;)

Looking hugely forward to the album (more than I am looking forward to having enough spare money to buy myself a proper keyboard, if you’d believe it!), Arjen.

          • Arjen says:

Hope it will live up to your expectations. I keep saying it…it’s definitely very different from my last few (dark) releases! It’s…adventurous, to say the least :-)

          • nox-Hand says:

Glad to hear it, Arjen :) In the mean time, I’ll rock out with the flute I managed to get for free off a friend who gave up playing it — not that I really know how to play it yet :D

  12. Halvanaut says:

Hey! It’ll be the best present for birthday if I can buy your new album with dedication, Arjen!

  13. Colin J says:

Arjen Lucassen and Rutger Hauer. Probably two of my favorite artists!!! I cant wait for this album to come out, maybe it will finally replace “The Human Equation” as the album I listen to on my way to work everyday.

    Well done!

  14. fortuneteller says:

    Hoi Arjen!
Leuk fragmentje.

  15. Great album, including all intros and the variation et al. Do also note that I rarely like cover songs, but the way Arjen does it, it’s definitely worthwhile!

    • Arjen says:

Glad to hear you enjoy it, Roy, thanks for the update! Yes, lots of variation indeed. And I tried to make the cover songs quite different from the originals. Glad I succeeded in your ears :-)

  16. Magusky says:

It’s amazing how i always relate blade runner and your music, and now its on the same dimension!
I love Sci-fi and when it comes to music you write the best sci-fi music i ever hear.
My father raise me with prog rock and one of our favorites is Ayreon :D
He has his band here in Tijuana and he keep inspiring me to do the same, but i believe that i wouldn’t like prog rock if it wast for Ayreon.
Greetings from Tijuana México and keep making music that lives trough generations, countries and maybe… the universe one day.

    • Arjen says:

Right Magusky, guess you can imagine how proud I am of the Blade Runner reference! Play say gracias to your dad for me…excellent education indeed :-)
