Fish – vocals Arjen explains: I got a lot of emails from people who were so happy to hear Fish on something prog again, and that this was the best thing he had done in years. Fish has an enormous personality that is reflected in his voice. He isn’t so much a technical singer, but very emotional. I was looking for an expressive vocalist and a reporter gave me Fish’s address. After months of waiting and calling I finally managed to get Fish himself on the line, who turned out to like my music. Because he played the part of a Scot (Highlander) it seemed logical to me that he would write his own lyrics. I also asked him to really stress the Scotisch accent. After a few drinks Fish began clowning around. I asked him whether he could say a few lines, instead of singing them. It was well into the night and his voice was almost shot. The nonsense he exclaimed then eventually ended up on ‘Ayreonauts Only’. You can hear in it in the fade out of ‘Original Hippie’s Amazing Trip’. I dare you to listen to it without laughing! And please don’t tell the big man about this… |
