Arjen explains: Gary has a great AOR voice like Paul Rodgers and Lou Gramm. For the version of ‘Beyond the last horizon’ on ‘Ayreonauts Only’ Gary recorded his voice in his own studio, but something was wrong with the microphone, so his voice didn’t come out well, which is too bad because he did a great job. I had to do a promo-tour in Germany together with Gary, whom I had never met at that point. We immediately hit it off, especially because of that dry English humor (Monty Python). When we were told that we had to do a short acoustic set somewhere, we spent half an hour putting a 30 minute set together and improvised the rest. Some lyrics that Gary came up with off the top of his head were hilarious! When we were signing autographs in Germany a lady offered Gary her back so he could put a piece of paper on it to sign. I will never forget that Gary signed the autograph on her very expensive blouse! |
