Arjen Explains
Someone had sent me an MP3 with Astrid singing on it. I didn’t have time to listen to it, but he kept asking me to listen to it. When I finally did listen, I was shocked. I couldn’t believe that the singer was only 14, and lived right here in the Netherlands: her pronunciation, pitch and timing were perfect! Her voice sounds rather folky and she can sing the most complicated things with tremendous ease. Because I wanted to make sure she used as many of her talents as possible, I had her write her own melodies and lyrics. She had never even been in a professional recording studio, but sang everything in one take! She is probably the most talented person I’ve had in my studio so far.
