Jay van Feggelen – vocals Arjen explains: Jay was the first singer of Bodine. I thought their debut record was the best releases in the Netherlands in its genre at the time, particularly because of Jay’s vocals. When Jay left Bodine I auditioned to join the band as a singer, but of course I could not hold a candle to such a voice. I was hired as a guitarist, which secretly had been my intention from the beginning. Jay has a very warm, heavy bluesy, and soulful voice and an American pronounciation. He is probably the best singer in that area that the Netherlands has ever known. Because Jay writes such wonderful over the top American lyrics I had him write some lyrics of the Barbarian. The combination of progmusic and blues can be considered strange. Most people appreciated it but some didn’t. So I wonder, doesn’t prog stand for progressive? And where are the boundaries then? Originally I had the part of gangster in mind for Jay on ‘Into the Electric Castle’ but because he indicated he was a big Conan fan, I gave him the part of Barbarian. |
