Hans van Vuuren of the Transmission label is a big fan of Anneke and one day asked me to have a good listen to her voice. Indeed I was quite impressed! Anneke is a pitch-perfect singer and her voice has a wonderful deep vibrato. It took quite some time to convince Anneke (but more specifically, convince her band) to guest on Ayreon. I scheduled a whole day for her to record her vocals for ‘Into the Electric Castle’, but recorded everything in a little over an hour! I think her melodies for The Gathering are quite unique, so I asked her to create her own melody lines for the song ‘Tunnel of Light’. She is a very talented singer and it is unfortunate she doesn’t do more side-projects. If she did, she could develop even more and we would be able to enjoy her voice so much more!
In 2015 Arjen and Anneke collaborated on The Gentle Storm, with Anneke writing the lyrics and singing, and Arjen taking care of the music and production. Arjen helped Anneke form a live touring band for The Gentle Storm. You can find out more about what the live band is up to on their Facebook page.
